17 teams, two days of high-level competition, and a great time had by all - the essential ingredients for the 2009 World Final. After two emotional days, Portugal claimed the Championship, earning their second world title and second championship in the last three tournaments.
The Portuguese started off strong, leading with 116 points on the first day, followed closely by two other teams. By the second day, they were again the best team and were able to increase their lead. The team, Miguel Oliveira (HCP 10,8), Rui Almeida (7,3), Leonel Neto (2,2) and Marinho Cruz (8,5) equaled their performance from the first day to earn a total of 232 points.
Prizes were awarded to the winners at the awards dinner, which was held in the Principe Felipe Hotel, located in the exclusive La Manga Club complex. The awards ceremony was hosted by Richard Evans and Andy Bush, the President and Editor for Time and Fortune magazines, respectively. Other winners included Collin Cloete (Dubai) who won the Longest Drive Contest, Rui Almeida (Portugal) who won the Closest to the Pin Contest and Leonel Neto who obtained the best individual card with 74 strokes (+2).
